Subject:Re: Salary Surveys, my last 2 cents From:Dick Gaskill <dickg -at- AG3D -dot- COM> Date:Wed, 10 Jun 1998 14:27:47 -0700
I have not been following this thread, and just read the last message
(below). If I read it right, there seems to be an issue over what tw
contractors fees and f/t salaries should be in various areas in the
country. Regarding the question in the message below, an average
one-story 4-bdrm tract house in the North Valley (Berryessa area) of San
Jose currently appraises at about $300K with offers to buy usually going
well above that becuase housing here is difficult to find.
I'm a hiring (tech pubs) manager here in the valley and I can tell you
that tw salaries are higher here than in many areas of the counry
becuause they have to be in order to keep up with the competition (lots
of hi-tech companies here) as well as the high cost of living, including
housing, taxes, gasoline, and insurance. If you compare salary surveys
such as Radford with STC and others, you will find that they do take
location and cost of living into account.

Don't ya just love a good fire fight? I just don't get a
good catharsis often enough... Anyway,

Absolutely not. Recently a study concluded that the median price
for a TWO
bedroom house in Burlingame was $500,000. That was six months
ago, so
prices should have gone up another %10.
I've heard that we have about a 98% occupancy rate here. I also
recently
read that SV is now THE most expensive place to live, outdoing
Boston, DC,
and Hawaii. Rents are no better. My tiny 2-bedroom dump is
$1400/mo. It
cost me $750 to register my car when I moved here...yadda,
yadda,
yadda...So, it all is, of course, relative. I keep hoping this
telecommuting myth becomes reality so I can move back into the
woods.
Happy days,
