You had the Sun style guide surgically implanted? Cool!

It's worth noting that in the examples of "i.e." John found in the
techwr archives, the first was redundant and the second probably
incorrect. John's rewrites are an improvement, but I can't be certain
he's retained the original meanings because I'm not certain what the
original meanings were.

It's easy enough to confuse i.e. and e.g., especially in casual
writing. I suspect few people would mistakenly say 'for example'
when they meant 'that is', and vice versa (more Latin!).
