While our friends across the pond are wallowing in what they perceive to be a
career in high demand, they might like to hear a story that I picked up on my
BA Tech Comm course in Coventry, England.
One of our lecturers, for some reason unkown, went along to an
exhibition/display for "Alternative Careers". There, nestling between the
Astrologers, Clairvoyants, Pet Carers and other fringe careers was a small
group trying to extol the virtues of "Technical Communication" to some amused
people who could not quite imagine the need for such specialist writers.
But matters are improving, there are more Universities who are adding
Technical Communication and similar topics to the curricula and I'm looking
forward to the day when I can answer "What is your profession?" and not be
asked to explain my reply.
