I'm not surprised people can't make up their minds whether tech writers
need to be introverts or extraverts (Jungian term and Jungian spelling).
What people who study psychological type have found is that while some
types do tend to migrate toward certain professions, that does not ensure
success in the field. Likewise, opposite types are not doomed to
failure. Sometimes the opposite types are very successful.
I believe Henrietta Shirk did some studies some time ago about MBTI type
and tech writers. If any of you are interested, you might look into that.
I do think knowing one's MBTI type can help in work and learning
situations. That's one of the reasons I use it both in the classroom and
when I do consulting. It's important to know that we have preferences
and that we can develop our oppositions--especially in a work
environment. It's also important to understand that those who work
differently from us (whether it is in writing process or management
style) may be just as effective as we are.
