JoAnn Hackos defines five levels of the interface between documentation and
development in her book, Managing Your Documentation Projects (Wiley, 1994).
The levels range in sophistication from clueless to optimizing. She describes a
similar hierarchy in her recent article in Technical Communication (November
1997, Vol. 44, No. 4).
