TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I am developing a model for electronic portfolios, which TC students will
emulate in order to create their own electronic portfolios. The idea is that
all the student's work is demonstrated electronically, in one electronic
file, and easily stored on one storage medium, such as a CD-ROM.
I am *gathering info.* I'm hoping you can help. My student and I have
created and posted a Web survey for TC professionals at http://www.clarkson.edu/~tornataj/survey/. Please take 5 minutes to visit
and answer the questions there. It's an easy, clickable form. The questions
get a sense for how at ease you would feel receiving an electronic portfolio
from a potential employee, what file formats you can easily open on a
computer, elements you like to see in a portfolio, and so on. The survey
gives you a chance to have direct input about students you might interview
or work with someday.
The model we develop will easily adapt to _any_ professonial's portfolio, so
we will also disseminate our results via the Web (and I'll send results and
URL to the list). We'd really appreciate your input.
