PRINCIPAL TECHNICAL WRITER

Position Description: This individual contributor has two main
responsibilities:

* Developing installation and applications materials for
automation controllers and related products, user guides and language
reference materials for Control Technology Corporation's Quickstep
programming language, network monitoring documentation, on-line help,
and training materials.

* Project management for Control Technology's evolving customer
training program, including guidance in instructional design,
presentation design, assembling content from subject matter experts,
instructional writing, and final packaging for course modules.

As a member of the documentation group, this individual also provides
peer editing and review of other written material being produced by the
team.

SKILLS

* excellent writing skills
* excellent editing skills
* minimum of five to eight years technical writing experience
* demonstrated ability in software and hardware writing and
desktop publishing
* ability to estimate and maintain schedules
* attention to detail

QUALIFICATIONS

* Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
* knowledge/experience in the fields of electronics, electrical
engineering, and/or the controls industry
* knowledge of hardware engineering is a plus
* instructional design/ instructional writing experience
* project management experience

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

This position requires effective cross-functional team work with the
following groups:

applications and documentation teams
customer service engineers and field engineers
hardware engineering team
software engineering team

Documentation work that involves third-party products that are
integrated into Control Tech. products, e.g., touch screens,
requires working effectively with involved vendors.

Successful candidates will be those who thrive in a small-company
environment that offers opportunities to be involved in
many levels of documentation design and development. Important
behavioral skills include the ability to work independently,
yet cooperatively, resourcefulness, creativity, and good communications
skills.
