HEY! Wait a minute!

I was a SME for three years at a telecommunications operation. In my
role I wrote training materials, trained my peers, served as an
escalation resource, wrote knowledge-base text, and wrote support
manuals. In other words, I was a TECH WRITER - one who happened to have
some specialized knowledge to write about. I've since used that
experience to move into tech writing full-time, and I'm doing quite
well.

So, since when did SMEs become the nemesis? The SMEs I use now (except
for engineers) are really helpful (and the engineers are mostly
well-intentioned, at least) <grin>.
