All--
Wow!
Thanks for the great feedback.
Here is the revised version of the blurb about the responsibilities of
the Tech Writer in software development.
It's obviously come very far, but any further suggestions would be
greatly appreciated. I'm still working on it.
Thanks again!
Gina

The Technical Writer will serve as the user's representative on the
development team. As such, the Technical Writer will provide input on
usability during the design phase, perform ongoing informal testing, and
provide feedback on interface functioning. He/she will participate in
the development of the terms list and create any messages displayed to
users. Using the software itself, client specifications, and any user
and engineer requirements as a guide, the Technical Writer will be
responsible for creating and/or contributing to the development of
on-line help files, other relevant online documentation, and printed
user manuals. When possible, the technical writer will participate in
site beta tests to gain knowledge of how customers use both the software
and the corresponding documentation. The Technical Writer may be
responsible for interviewing SMEs (subject matter experts) and
contributing to QA testing for the product. If training is involved, the
Technical Writer will work with our Certified Instructors to develop
customized courseware for the new applications.
