Also try opening each of the files being referenced
from within Word and re-saving them (as opposed to
opening them from Explorer which then launches them
as Word documents based on their file extension).
Word, being Word, likes to know for *itself* where
the files are. I haven't used '97 but I know this
works in 6 and 7.
