Here's the procedure for importing VP 4.x (yes, all versions) into
FrameMaker 4 or 5:

1. In VP, convert all base files, including tables, to ASCII text. (Use the
File type/Rename command.)

2. Make sure all imported files (they can be imported by reference or
imported into the document--it doesn't matter) are in a format that
FrameMaker supports, such as TIF. If conversion is necessary, use your
graphics application.

3. Open Frame.

4. Click File->Open (_not_ import) the VP chapter (.CHP) file.

5. The Unknown File Type dialog box opens. Click Ventura. Frame opens the
file and converts it to FM. If you get an error message, it is probably
because there's a text file or table that hasn't been converted to ASCII.

6. Format your templates as desired.
