Following some off list discussions I thought some information on INTECOM
(for those who haven't already heard of it) might be of interest.
INTECOM is the International Council for Technical Communication and is an
association of tech communication societies in various countries. Main
objectives can be summarized as follows:
To improve the standards of writing, speaking and graphic communication
in all applications of science and technology.
To promote understanding of the importance of technical communication.
To foster the formation of technical communication societies in
countries where they do not already exist.
To facilitate the exchange of information and experience among member
countries (the list helps in this!).
To carry out projects of mutual interest to member countries.
To assist member organizations in international matters.
Member organisations: - ASTC (Australia), Dantekom (Denmark),CRT (France),
Tekom (Germany), STIC/QTD (Netherlands), NFTI (Norway), ITCSA (South
Africa), FTI (Sweden), Tecom (Switzerland),ISTC (UK), STC (USA), IEEE/PCS
(US&Canada) (may be more by now).
There is a Forum run every 5 years, the 6th being Forum 2000 in the UK
organised by:
Programme - STC, USA
Public Relations - tekcom, Germany
Conference Operation - IEEE/PCS, USA/Canada
Administration - ISTC, UK
There is a newsletter/magazine produced (recently up and running to keep up
contact between forums and supported by INTECOM) called TC Forum which may
be of interest. Info from Hans Springer (Springer -dot- H -at- geod -dot- geonet -dot- de). A
web page (www.tc-forum.org) is also planned but I'm not sure if it's up and
running yet.
No doubt the STC will be looking for contributors etc.
