The Office 97 Service Release, a whopping 7MB download
requiring some 30MB of free disk space, aims to make Word 97
backward compatible with earlier versions, to enhance e-mail
support for Outlook 97, Snapshot technology in Access, and
support for Intel's MMX technology. It is available free at
The patch was removed between August 15 and August 25 to fix a
rare problem that could prevent Word 97 from saving changes
when editing an existing document. If you downloaded the patch
between August 6 and August 15, return to the same URL for
instructions on how to download an upcoming "baby patch" to fix
the glitch.
