Emma,
Aagh! Run the other way! My division briefly toyed with the idea of
switching our documentation from Ventura to Word. As a result, I spent
hours trying to take one of our existing documents and recreate it in Word.
It was a big pain and the results were not satisfactory. We use a
multi-column format, and it was nearly impossible to get the text to flow
properly, much less to place the graphics where we wanted them. I never
even got to the point of trying cross-referencing or grouping the files
into a book. Fortunately, based on my experiences, we were able to convince
our management to abandon the idea.
You might want to look at http://www.manuallabour.com/tools.htm, which
compares word processing vs desktop publishing. It specifically discusses
Word vs
Ventura, but I'm sure a lot of it will be applicable to you.
Let us know what happens!
Cindy
