The Merriam-Webster Dictionary of English Usage says, "_Nor_ frequently
replaces _or_ in negative statements." From the examples given, I'd say it
is a slightly more poetic usage. The book goes on to say, "It is clearly
felt to be more emphatically negative than _or_ in some instances."
