Funny you should use this metaphor, as my dog left the security of his
"full time" back yard to try and make it on his own Friday... I don't
think he enjoyed his weekend at the animal shelter. If you can handle
the risks, and don't mind giving up your personalized food dish to
occasionally eat out of the figurative garbage can, then contracting may
be for you. Some of us are cut out to follow a scent through the
neighborhood and some of us don't have the... um... (Tracy struggles for
a suitable, non-offensive word to describe a part of the male anatomy
she doesn't have, and neither, coincidentally, does her dog, but finding
none, gives up and moves on). I have a lot of respect for people who can
throw away the leash and make it on their own. I also know myself well
enough to realize I'm not one of them -- I'm a lap dog.
