If I am not mistaken, techcomm was formed because of objections
to the seemingly off-topic threads on techwr-l. Here's some
information posted on March 6, 1997, by Betsy Shoolbred
<BSHOOLBR -at- ECS-INC -dot- COM>:
==================================
How do I subscribe to TechComm?
==================================
You can subscribe to TechComm by sending a message to:
list -at- user -dot- itconsult -dot- co -dot- uk
Make sure that your message has no entry in its subject line, and
that you type JOIN TECHCOMM into the body of the message (you can
use SUBSCRIBE instead of JOIN if you wish).
====================================
How do I leave the TechComm list?
====================================
To leave the TechComm list, send a message to:
list -at- user -dot- itconsult -dot- co -dot- uk
Make sure that your message has no entry in its subject line, and
that you type LEAVE TECHCOMM into the body of the message (you
can use UNSUBSCRIBE instead of LEAVE if you wish).
======================================
How do I send messages to the list?
======================================
Having subscribed to the list, send your messages to:
techcomm -at- user -dot- itconsult -dot- co -dot- uk
It would be helpful if you preceded the subject line of your
messages with "TC" so that they may be identified by the members.
========================================
Is the list available in digest form?
========================================
Yes. To receive the TechComm digest rather than individual
messages, send a message to:
list -at- user -dot- itconsult -dot- co -dot- uk
with the command DIGEST TECHCOMM in the body of the message.
Don't enter a subject for your message.
To stop receiving the digest and to go back to receiving
individual messages you will have to leave the list and then
re-join. This process is described above.
=========================================
What other list commands are available?
==========================================
For a full list of TechComm list commands, send a message to:
list -at- user -dot- itconsult -dot- co -dot- uk
with HELP in the first line of the message body. Do not give
your message a subject heading.
=================================
Help! Help! I need more help!
=================================
If you need any further help, send to a message to Mike Bygrave
(bygravem -at- intuitive -dot- co -dot- uk) or Iain Harrison
(iharrison -at- sct -dot- co -dot- uk). We're nice blokes, so we'll try to tell
you what you need to know.

Feel free. But don't expect those of us who love techwr-l the
way it is to be upset that you feel there has been nothing
worthwhile posted lately on techwr-l. Some of us enjoy it the
way it is.
