Although I'm provisionally _certified_ by Adobe as a FrameMaker trainer
(provisionally meaning I passed the written exam, but have not completed
either the CTT exam requirement or sent them a video tape of me in
action...), I have no real plans to complete the process. All it offers me
is referrals from Adobe--about once a month someone calls me to inquire
about training. But it's difficult to manage multiple techcomm projects and
break away and do training as well.
Prior to the Adobe exam/tape process, I did more training because of my
experience using the product over the past 6 years on all platforms. Yes,
it's difficult to master Frame, and instructor helps and shortens the
process dramatically, but it's using FrameMaker (or any software product)
in a production environment, day-to-day, that really _teaches_ one how to
work efficiently and purposefully. I'd be willing to hire someone with
extensive experience with differing projects, as I'd get the benefits of
_real-world_ use. (Although I scored in the 90s on the FrameMaker exam--it
was an easy test. Someone using the s/w for 6 months could have passed it
and become provisionally certified as well.)
