I'm in the "no lines" camp for the very reasons you mentioned, Kari. I
find, in trying to use IM materials, that the lines are distracting and
actually hinder me in finding what I want, so I always use white space
instead. In a document with long (over a page) sections I wouldn't find
the lines at all objectionable, but in my own work, they would usually appear
several times per page.
