To the anonymous Poster:

*Definitely* begin forming a student chapter. No matter what the local STC
chapter does or does not do, the student chapter can and should be a
valuable part of your education. The comments posted concerning the Bowling
Green chapter are a case in point. Bowling Green has been an outstanding
student chapter for years. But I also know of one student chapter that died
aborning when the faculty advisor who was shepherding them along left the
university for another position.

If you have a full-fledged student chapter, you will be assured of getting
all the competition information and will also have the services of a
director-sponsor who, as noted, is a knowledgable and experienced senior
member of STC and a leader of the Society. the D-S is there to help you
succeed. The management skills you will develop by leading a student
chapter will serve you well in your professional life.

Several people noted that student membership had been valuable to them.

Several also commented that they could not understand the attitude of the
local chapter when they were approached by the students. This needs to be
resolved.

Someone commented that things might be better if we were all certified.
Possibly, but then we'd all have to be committed as well. <gdr>

Best of luck all the way 'round.
