Subject: disappearing spaces in Word documents

I'm having a funky problem with Word once again. I'm doing a short
document for my boss. Looks fine on my screen, prints out fine on my
computer. However, when my boss brings it up or prints it out from
her
computer, spaces between words have gone missing. By turning on the
show-characters option, I can see that the spaces are there (besides,
they're showing up just fine in my docs). We both have Word locally
installed and are printing to the same computer. The font is Times
Roman
12. I have a hard time believing this document is corrupted, because
it's
quite short and I've only been working on it for a few days. Any
suggestions from the peanut gallery?

Cathy,

I assume you mean that you are both printing to the same printer.

Okay, you both have Word installed locally, but what about the file
itself? Is it on a network drive, or do you each have the same file on
your local hard drives?

Not sure if this will help, but one thing you might try is converting
the file to Rich Text Format (RTF). Have your boss bring that up on
her system and see if the spaces come back. If it looks okay, she can
then convert it back to a Word file to see if that really solves the
problem.

Also, are you both using the same version of Word on the same platform
... i.e., are you both using the same version of Windows, is one of
you using a Mac, etc.?

Or ... if you both have the file on your local hard drives, try
copying the file your boss is using onto floppy and then reading it
from your system. If it looks fine on your computer, you can be pretty
certain that the file isn't corrupted.
