A4 paper and PDF

 Pete Kloppenburg wondered whether to anticipate problems
 printing PDF docs designed for North American paper on A4
 paper. Pete, I can't give you a definitive answer, but you
 can find out for yourself easily enough: drop down to the
 local stationer's store and ask for a few pages of A4, then
 test it yourself. (You're near Toronto, right? The ministry
 of natural resources used to use A4 fairly often, so they
 might be willing to donate a few pages to the cause.)

 Off the cuff, I'd anticipate that the only problems will be
 with your binding margin, since A4 is slightly narrower
 than North American paper (by 0.2 inches). You can fix this
 simply by resetting your margins (_without_ changing the
 printing portion of the page) then reprinting the file to
 PDF. For example, if you've got equal 1-inch margins, leave
 the left margin at 1 inch, then drop the right margin to
 0.8 inches. One version, two different print commands, no
 reformatting required... it won't look as perfect as on our
 paper, but will look just fine nonetheless. Then, for your
 next project, design the document on the assumption that
 you'll be using both paper types and pick margins that will
 work for both versions.
