OK is an American idiom for acknowledgement, and as such is, well, OK for
that use in software, though no more "correct" than, say "Right-o" or
"check." (Thank goodness the engineers didn't settle on "ACK"!)

To the specific question asked about using "OK," "Ok," and "Okay" together in
one software package, I ascribe that to sloppiness, and recommend cleanin
that up.

Let me point out that the other possibility is to use "Yes," "No," and
"Cancel" to acknowledge messages. However, that requires prhasing the message
as a question, which is awkward for a statement of fact or notification of an
event, in which the logical response is acknowledgment.

(OK, I have seen another response. A Macintosh program--shareware, I
think--had you acknowedge a write error by clicking a button that said
"Shoot." OK, it didn't say "shoot" ... 8^)
