Thanks to everyone who wrote with with either sympathy or advice! The
general concensus is that it's a very bad idea, so with the backing of
my colleagues I've taken on the Management Monster.
If I fail in my quest, you all have given me some ideas how to make this
abomination at least marginally functional.
