the internal and external clock rates of Pentium CPUs have a fixed ratio in .5
steps. A 100 MHz (really 99 MHz or externally 66.3 MHz) CPU uses 1.5 times
the
external clock, i.e. it works with 66 MHz externally. A 120 MHz CPU uses 60
MHz externally and therefore is slower at I/O-intensive activities than a 100
MHz CPU. This difference typically eats about the internal speed-up.
Or more up-to-date: A 150 MHz CPU is more expensive than a 133 MHz CPU, but
hardly faster in real-world applications.
