One-page resumes

 It occurs to me that the one-page vs. two page issue may
 have a simple resolution. If I might steal from a recent
 series of beer commercials: "Hey! Let's do both!" In your
 cover letter, note that you've included the short form for
 those who just want the highlights, plus the long form in
 case you make it past the first cut. Those who don't want
 the details can simply examine the short version and
 discard the long one; those who do want details can do the
 reverse. This should make everyone happy.

 There's also the "cv" version of a resume, which is
 effectively the table of contents to your autobiography...
 everything goes here, including the titles of every article
 you've ever written. These are mostly used in academe,
 where it's important to know your research track record. I
 imagine you'd only provide this "on request" to most
 personnel departments, but they make interesting starting
 points for creating the smaller resumes.
