Creating interest areas has worked very well for the HTML Writers Guild
mailing list.

I have to disagree with this statement. I heartily dislike how
topic-specific the HTML Writers Guild list now is.
My personal experience follows: Now that the Guild lists are broken up into
topics, I've found that *my* general information retrieval is less. I
unsubscribed to the lists that I thought were not of interest to me. But, I
realize that I can not know on a given day what list members will write
about and if it really is important info or something that I may want to
comment on. Also, there is a constant stream of "that topic is not
appropriate for this list, send it to the other list."
My vote is to keep Techwr-l whole!
