Dear Folks,

I'm an employer who believes the degree certification process is
very highly flawed. I've gone through hundreds of resumes,
looking for applied policy researchers, and I've come to the
conclusion, after hiring a number of dud phd's, the list of
accomplishments impresses me much more.

The academic community, which seems a little incestuous, has no
idea what our real world concerns are. If you want to teach, of
course, you'll be required to have the certification. But if
you want a job, you'd better not "rest on your laurels."

Very sincerely,
Jim Talboy, Senior Statistician
