This is a reminder that the Gould Award Committee
is still seeking nominations and the DEADLINE IS
OCTOBER 25, 1996
--------------------------------------------------
The Jay R. Gould Award honors the distinguished
teaching career of Professor Gould whose academic
mentorship of technical communication students
guided
many men and women into our profession.
The award honors excellence in teaching that
becomes
true academic mentorship: the personal and
professional
concern that an excellent teacher extends to a
student
beyond the demands of the classroom, beyond, even,
the
student's graduation and into that former
student's
professional career.
The 1994 recipient of the award was Sherry G.
Southard.
The eligibility requirements are fairly strict.
To be eligible,
a nominee must have been a Member of the Society
for
Technical Communication for ten years and must
have
been involved in post-secondary education for at
least
fifteen years. Nominees may have received other
STC
recognition (such as Associate Fellow or Fellow or
President's Award) and still be eligible for the
Gould
Award. Current STC Board Members and members of
the
nominating committee are not eligible to receive
the
award.
Gould Award Committee Manager Scott P. Sanders
invites any STC member to recommend a candidate or
candidates for this award. If you are not sure
that your
candidate meets the eligibility requirements
stated above,
please, go ahead and nominate your candidate.
The Gould Award Committee will invite eligible
candidates to complete an informational nomination
form and provide the names of at least three
individuals,
only one of whom may be an academic colleague, who
can
speak to the nominee's teaching and mentorship.
You may nominate a candidate for the 1996 Jay R.
Gould
Award by writing or e-mailing Scott P. Sanders
before
before October 25th (when the first stage of the
nominating process closes). The addresses follow:
