Colleagues,

Yesterday Karen F. (no last names, please) inquired about how to cope with
the manual written by a moron. My advice, for what little it might be
worth, would be to rewrite a sample chapter (a short one) and discuss the
changes with the contract manager. If s/he agrees that you have indeed
improved the product, talk about the change of scope involved in the
extensive changes you would be making and quote a new price. Since you have
already done one chapter and know what it took, you should be able to
project your added time with reasonable confidence.

If the manager says to forget about it, swallow your pride, grit your teeth,
mutter evil incantations against the original TC, and get on with the job
you contracted to do. Just make sure your name doesn't appear on the
finished product. ;-)
