Companies stopped rewarding loyal employees long ago for the most part,
except perhaps those that include profit-sharing, stock,
savings/pension/401(k) contributions, etc., to enrich employees who stay
over the long haul. These contributions reflect one's increased value
beyond just getting older in the same spot.
If you are concerned about changing jobs, research the company to see if
it's concerned about changing employees - does it downsize, outsource,
etc., frequently or regularly? Do they move your office to another
building so they can justify moving storage there, too, as was recently
described on this list?
If your concern passes this test but is still bothersome, inform your
current employer that you have a solid offer of x-amount for
y-responsibilities and see if they are interested in matching and
retaining you. Assuming you like your current situation, their response
may help you decide if it's worth staying or not.
