I actually was in an interview for a technical writing position recently, and
the question of respect is a big issue with me. I asked how the technical
writers and what they do are perceived by line staff and management and how
the technical writing job fits into the big picture.

Question for Sue Gallagher (or anyone else who has a good suggestion):

I agree that it is important for a techwriter to ask at an interview if the
company and the team respect the technical writers. But, what is a respectful
and non-offending way to ask that question and get a truthful answer?
