The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
"Our problem is that once data is deleted in our system, it is not
recoverable. Because of this, we cannot use commonly accepted icons
such as a trash receptacle because the trash receptacles used by Mac
and Win95 enable the user to recover the data. In our system, the user
cannot recover data unless they restore from a backup."
Can't the programmers put in a confirmation message box that pops up
stating exactly that, once the icon is clicked? You know, something that
says "Heads up, folks... there's no "Undo" to this one."
