I am using Compose (Software Partners Inc) and other Acrobat plug-ins - the
result is a _full text search_ across _all_ the PDF documents, jumps from
the contents and index directly to the page, and so on. Speed is quite
acceptable. You can download an evaluation copy fo Compose from the web
(sorry, don't have the address by me)
