Sabahat Iqbal Ashraf publishes a table of the SI prefixes.
He gives <mu>, the Greek character mu for micro. This is correct, but often
not available, or only available with difficulty.
Typists used to substitute a lc "u" and, with luck, either the typist or the
author of the letter would insert the tail to turn it into a mu. However I
used to see many documents (and sometimes printed articles) with an
unmodified "u". This to the extent that "u" was often regarded as a typing
convention for <mu>.
