I consider myself a Senior Writer. I have 18 years of technical writing and
editing experience. You can assign a project to me, walk away, and expect a
quality result on time. I can train others.
Here are some of the things I think count when looking for the title:
** Years of experience (over 5, 8 is better)
** Responsibilities at current job. Are you team leader, supervisor,
contributing ideas, able to do a fine job without supervision? These things
count.
** What are they willing to pay you? If they are willing to pay you a lot,
then they have a lot of respect for your abilities (or need you desperately,
or don't know the going wage).
There are probably more. Most of all, I would say, do you feel like a
Senior Writer or is this still something hoped for? If you strive for
honesty, you can be a pretty good judge of your abilities.
