Software system design is another potential career path from technical
writing. As a technical writer, you will (hopefully) gain lots of
experience designing paper and online documentation systems. You will also
(hopefully) spend a lot of time working with other software designers to
understand the systems you document. You will pick up a lot from those
discussions.
