I am working on a book about SGML, the Standard Generalized Markup Language,
and its role in standardizing the processes used to create and deliver
documents in corporations. The book will be published by Prentice-Hall later
this year.

As part of that effort, I am looking for studies on document-based information
within corporations. Although figures have been bandied about in articles, I've
seen relatively few references to studies that actually looked at the costs,
the benefits or impact of improved document management and delivery on
corporate performance.

If you know of any studies done in this area or if you know of organizations to
contact, I would greatly appreciate the leads. Your leads will help me back up
my anecdotal evidence with statistics, and better frame the issues involved for
those who make the go/no go decisions on publishing system purchases. It will
also help me put documents into perspective as key corporate resources,
something that I don't think is always obvious to the people at the top.

Thanks and Best regards,

/chet
