I feel sorry for both of them. She assumed that he would resent her if she
earned more money than he did---how sad!
When I was faced with that situation, I -asked- my husband how he'd feel.
He though for a couple of minutes, then said: "Great! Now I don't have
to feel so pressured to be the major breadwinner. I can concentrate on
being a better teacher, instead of worrying that I'm not bringing in enough
cash for you."
For 17 years, I made considerably more than he did. It never bothered
either of us. When I made a major career change to become a technical
writer, our family income dropped by 60%. Now, THAT was difficult for him
to handle!
