It seems that many of the job
postings ask for Framemaker experience or UNIX experience. If the other
qualifications were present; writing skill, technical background, software
proficiency, education, etc., but not any training in either of the above
mentioned would you disqualify a job candidate? Which, if any, formal
training would you put on top of your list of "door openers"?
We don't disqualify a candidate based on lack of experience with our DTP (we
use FrameMaker). We would prefer that they know FrameMaker or at least one DTP
program, but that isn't required either. All new doc specialists attend a basic
and intermediate FrameMaker training class (unless of course, they are well
versed in the package). We have made that a standard and have kept to if with
the last seven new hires.
