I have only one project with a due date of October. My list reflects that,
but also the everyday goals I need to reach in order to make that final
duedate. My list is short because of the way I handle detail.

We're on Draft 2 in the document. I list lots of the details.
For the next to final, Final Draft, and Print Copy, I list only that.
Unless there is a detail I need to attend to now, it doesn't go on the list.

As the time comes closer for a due date, there are more details concerning
it on my list. Otherwise I would be totally overwhelmed by tasks like "Find
every tiny typo" for the last draft.

When managing several projects at once, a more complicated list would be
useful. You could build it for each project, then organize it for due date.
File cards might be the way to go there.
