Amy, you didn't say what kind of GUI....Mac, Windows (3.1, 3.11, NT,
95), UNIX, OS/2, etc. And are you talking about terminology or
behavior?
For Windows 95 I have two recommendations:
"The Windows Interface Guidelines for Software Design" which covers
both behavior and terminology. Microsoft Press ISBN 1-55615-679-0
"The Microsoft Manual of Style for Technical Publications" which has
excellent guidelines for terminology and how to use the terms in
documentation. This book also covers (lightly) online help.

I have found both of these to be valuable in my work, which involves
products for Windows (3.1, NT, and 95).
