while I agree that too often people use the word "utilize" where "use"
is correct; banning it is not the solution. There are cases (and I have
come across them) where "utilize" is correct. "utilize" means to make
use of. the first time I remember editing something and not changing
"utilize" to "use" was in a job description of one of our principal
engineers: as part of his supervisory responsibilities, he had to
utilize other engineers skills to complete projects. I don't think
"use" works in that case.
