How about:

9. Ask the student to rewrite the CEO's preface in plain English, while
keeping the CEO's "voice."

10. Ask the student to provide graphics (without giving the student any
software from which to work).

11. Give the student the pre-alpha version of the software and ask
the student to write the final doc.

12. As an alternative test, simply ask the student three questions:

1. What's the first question?
2. What's the answer to the second question?
3. What are the three questions?
