OVERVIEW OF SKILLS
Over the past seven years, I have written, designed,
and produced training curricula, presentations and
courseware; I have written online and print training and
marketing communication documents, and produced multimedia
events; and I have planned and facilitated meetings,
conferences, and workshops.

In addition to providing classroom training to novices and
experts on how to use computer hardware and software, I have
given professional presentations on Active Listening,
Instructional Communication, and The Graphic Design of Text.

I recently completed a Master's thesis "The Graphic Design
of text: a review of research" and will be awarded a
Master s of Science Degree (4.0 GPA) in Technical and
Professional Communication in December, 1995.

My strong project management skills, collaboration skills,
and creativity help me find innovative solutions to
difficult communication problems.

As a technical communicator, I take complicated subject
matter, easily understood by subject-matter experts, and
translate it into a language, a format, a style, and a tone
that can be easily understood by non-experts. I understand
the critical importance of clearly understanding who it is
I m communicating with and what I expect them to do with the
information I m communicating. I know audiences read
documents and watch presentations primarily to learn, to do,
to assess, and to learn to do.

To help audiences accomplish these tasks, I ve developed and
use the skills below to translate what experts know for
audiences with a need to know:
- Project planning and management

- Technical and marketing writing, editing, and indexing

- Audience and task analysis

- Script writing

- Concept development

- Curriculum development and classroom training

- Meeting/conference/workshop planning and facilitation

- Public performance/public speaking

- Graphic design/editing and typography

- Hypertext and hypermedia

- Programming: functional analysis and design,
functional and technical requirements, coding and
debugging
