Abstract:

It is surprising how many people do not know their way around the Internet.
Today, being "wired" is as common as having a phone was 50 years ago. The
problem is that the term Internet or Superhighway means different things to
different people. Some people think that email is enough, while others
subscribe to one of the major services and assume that what they have is all
there is. There is confusion about the programs available and what they do.
In addition, there is confusion about how to use the "Net" to find
information about human factors and ergonomics.

The purpose of this presentation is twofold. First, to introduce what is
available on the Net and to take a look at some of these tools. Second, to
show specific ways to access information about human factors and ergonomics.
The presentation will be focused on both the new user and the experienced
user who wants to know more about Human Factors and Ergonomics on the Net.

Biographies:

Bob Kaplan is our new president. He has developed a variety of innovative
concepts at Cornell Labs, Bell Labs, and more recently with his consulting
company, Usernomics. His experience in navigating the Net came from
necessity. Many of his present clients have Ergonomic projects relating to
the Net and he maintains a Meta Site for Human factors, Ergonomics,
Biomechanics, and Training.

Tony Andre is one of our Directors and is well known for his human factors
expertise at NASA and San Jose State University. He has published articles
in HFES's "Ergonomics in Design", presented several papers at various
professional meetings, and continues advanced human factors work at
NASA/Ames Research Center. His varied activities are well known to his
colleagues and students in the Bay Area. Tony has been involved with the
Internet for many years and will expand upon many of the features and
benefits for Human Factors and Ergonomics searching.
