As far as writing exercises go, a good one to use is the Telephone. We ask
people to describe "how to make a telephone call" (i.e. including finding
the number and dialing it) to an office clerk who has never used one. Lots
of times you get obtuse technical information about telephone networks
and/or very odd stream of consciousness stuff without any real structure at all.
Now, as for address bigotry;

Nope, you lose here too. Any .com, .org, .edu, .net, .mil, or .gov address
marks you out as an American*, to be flamed mercilessly. ;-)
