Many thanks to everyone who responded to my question about scaling screen
shots for on-line Help! To digest the results for those who inquired:

WexTech, makers of Doc-To-Help [(212) 949-9595] markets a Smooth Scaling
utility which uses dithering in 256 colors to scale down bitmaps legibly for
on-line documents (not for print). You can convert to 16 colors afterwards.
The results are a bit blurry but a great improvement over the alternatives.
Sample and description available from the WexTech forum on CompuServ:
Smooth.Zip and Smooth.Txt. $49.

A lot of people also suggested cropping the screen shots whenever possible
(which I'm already doing, but didn't mention).

And, for those who expressed puzzlement: Yes, I really go by the name "K"
with no period. It's pronounced (but not spelled) "kay". My legal first
name is Karellynne, but those who see it first generally pronounce it in
ways I don't care for, while those who hear it first (roughly, k'RELin)
generally can't spell it. So I tend to prefer K.
