METRO BALTIMORE STC CHAPTER TO HOST 6TH ANNUAL REGION 2 CONFERENCE

"Staying Afloat: Managing Communication Trends" is the theme for this year's
Society for Technical Communication Region 2 Conference to be held on Saturday,
14 October 1995 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Baltimore, Maryland.

Two keynote addresses will be featured during the day-long conference. Ms.
Jerilynne Sander, Chief Imagineering Officer at Simply Written, will deliver the
morning keynote address titled, "Can You Come Out to Play: Winning with
Creativity." Saul Carliner, STC President, will give the afternoon keynote
address titled, "Assuring Your Future: Demonstrating the Value of Technical
Information Products." The morning will also feature a panel discussion of
"Trends in Technical Communication."

In the afternoon, concurrent sessions by industry experts include "Dealing with
the Aftermath of Decentralization," "Choosing a Windows Help Authoring Tool,"
and "On Beyond Help: A Taxonomy of Interface Design Paradigms for On-line
Documents." A networking table progression session will complete the afternoon's
activities.

Baltimore's revitalized Inner Harbor has something for everyone. From the Hyatt,
you are within walking distance of the brick-lined waterfront promenade, the
World Trade Center, the National Aquarium, and the Maryland Science Center
(featuring the IMAX Theater and Davis Planetarium). You can take a ride in a
water taxi or paddleboat, tour the U.S. Submarine Torsk and the U.S. Frigate
Constellation, or shop at the Harborplace pavilions or the multilevel Gallery.
Sports enthusiasts can enjoy the birthplace of Babe Ruth and the state-of-the-
art Oriole Park at Camden Yards.

For those with a bent for the arts, nearby offerings include the Pier Six
Concert Pavilion, Baltimore Museum of Art, Walters Art Gallery, Meyerhoff
Symphony Hall, Morris Mechanic Theater, Lyric Opera House, Arena Players, Center
Stage, Eubie Blake Cultural Center, Baltimore City Life Museums, Peabody
Conservatory of Music, Maryland Institute of Art, and the Great Blacks in Wax
Museum.

Costs for the one-day conference are: $60 for STC members, $65 for nonmembers,
$55 for students, and $75 for walk-ins.

Single- and double-occupancy hotel rooms at the Hyatt Regency are available for
$125 per night.

Regional conferences provide a wealth of information about your profession and
the Society. They also provide a forum in which to network with other STC
members in the region. To acquire registration materials or for more
information, contact Conference General Manager Tony Caruso at (800)448-8324
extension 228.

The Society for Technical Communication is the world's largest nonprofit

sciences, medicine, technical illustrating, and graphic design. STC provides a
