On 11 Aug 1995, John Blair (john -dot- blair -at- nb -dot- rockwell -dot- com) asked
about STC Tech Pubs competitions:

> Have any chapters developed their own set of guidelines for
> 1) qualifying and selecting judges for these competitions, and
> 2) guidelines for conducting the judging process? Does anyone
> know if the STC, itself, has proposed any such guidelines?

I can suggest two resources:

- Ask the STC office to send a copy of "Rules for Technical
Publications Competitions." This is a high-level set of
guidelines for both chapter and international competitions.
(There are similar documents, incidentally, for Art and
Online competitions.)

- See the two-part article "Managing the Chapter
Competition," by Susan J. Grodsky, in the May/June and July
issues of *Tieline*. The article is a chronological
checklist for conducing the competition in your chapter.

If you're not familiar with *Tieline*, it's a newsletter
for chapter leaders and other STC officers. Your chapter
president should have copies.
